This captivating allegory follows Christian as he travels from his home in the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. Along the way, Christian meets aptly named characters who help or hinder him in his pilgrimage. The Pilgrim’s Progress is an excellent introduction to allegory and the classic “hero’s journey.” Understanding these traditions and forms will allow readers to notice when the style is mimicked in other literature or even modern forms of media. Though every believer’s walk is different, all are on a journey and will face some of the same challenges as the main character, Christian. The Pilgrim’s Progress is a Christian classic that has encouraged generations of Christ-followers and provides plenty of opportunities for discussion and digging deeper even today.
